August 7: Imperial Symphony Orchestra Auditions

Auditions are August 7, 2012 at 6:00pm.

ISO Office, 1035 S Florida Ave, Suite 205, Lakeland

The Imperial Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 starting at 6:00pm at the ISO office, 1035 S Florida Ave, Suite 205, Lakeland, FL. If you are interested in auditioning for the ISO, please email Christine Collister and include your name, instrument and playing resume or call (863) 688-3743. Students who wish to join the ISO must be a member in good standing with their high school orchestra if a program exists.
Audition requirements for all instruments:

  • Perform 1 or 2 prepared solos from the standard repertoire for your instrument, preferably two contrasting works (one fast, one slow) which demonstrate different techniques and musicality (can include an etude).
  • Perform a scale (3-octave for strings) in the key chosen by the panel (be prepared to play any key in major and relative minor).
  • Sight read.

Proficiency requirements for strings:

  • Must be comfortable playing in upper positions (beyond third position) with full tone, excellent intonation and robust vibrato.
  • Must demonstrate a mastery of advanced bow techniques (such as staccato, col legno, sul tasto, detache, etc.)
  • Must be able to perform a 3-octave scale in any key, major and relative minor.

  • Violin 1
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • Bass

All other instruments are encouraged to audition to be considered for our substitute musician list.
