Governor Scott Visits Explorations V Children’s Museum
Explorations V Children’s Museum, located at 109 North Kentucky Avenue in downtown Lakeland, was treated to a visit by Florida governor Rick Scott on Saturday, August 11.
The governor was greeted by Explorations V Children’s Museum’s CEO, Georgann Carlton, and president of the museum’s board of directors, Chrissy Schaf
f, along with museum board and staff members, volunteers and museum visitors. Prior to touring the museum, Governor Scott was presented with a “We Are the Arts” collage and a rendering of the 1929 Kress Building, home to the hands-on museum, which was created by former Explorations V Children’s After School with the Arts student, Caleb Poe. After School with the Arts offers after school care for children with an interest in or aptitude for the arts and sciences. The presentation of the gift to the governor was made by two 2011-2012 After School with the Arts students, Kaitlyn and Jeremy Portillo along with their teacher, Explorations V Education Coordinator, Claudine Humber-Curry. As Governor Scott visited the museum, Carlton informed him of the importance of play in developing a child’s curiosity and love of learning and how the various programs offered by Explorations V Children’s Museum enhance the learning process.
Explorations V Children’s Museum’s Public Relations Director, Brenda Paul; Exhibit Director, Eddie Kleissler; Education & Operations Director, Sue Schluender and Terry Lauretta, new Academic Services Director who heads up the museum’s new tutoring and test prep services, also shared details regarding their respective departments and how each plays and significant role in achieving the museum’s mission to “provide a hands-on, fun-filled adventure in learning for children and their families.”

Explorations V Children’s Museum, a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is located in downtown Lakeland in the historic S.H. Kress Building. Three floors of mind stretching, kid-powered exhibits and programs provide a hands-on, fun-filled adventure in learning for children and their families. Hours are Monday – Saturday, 9am to 5:30pm. Admission is $7 per person. Senior citizens 65+ are $3.50. Teachers/military with ID are also $3.50. Children under two are free. Members of Explorations V Children’s Museum are also free. Annual Family Memberships can be purchased for $70.
